BHAVAN’S RAMAKRISHNAN INSTITUTE OF TEACHER EDUCATION [BRITE]
Although Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan had various educational institutions, there was no College for teacher education under its banner up to 2005. The establishment of Bhavan’s Ramakrishnan Institute of Teacher Education –BRITE at Ramanattukara removed this shortcoming. (The institute was named in memory of late Padmabhooshan S. Ramakrishnaji who was the real builder of Bhavan and rose up to a synonym of it being its Executive Secretary & Director General for more than four decades). The first batch of B.Ed Course was started in 2005.
The position of teacher in the society is really very high. As Swami Chidbhavananda said, “The worth and potentialities of a country is got evaluated in and through the work of the teacher. A country is nothing more and nothing less than the teacher who is its builder. Indeed, the people of a land are the enlarged replica of their teacher. The progress, stagnation or deterioration in a society is directly or indirectly traceable to the mettle in the teacher. The teacher is the real nation builder. In direct proportion to the part he plays and the influence he exerts, people come up. The first charge on an enlightened society therefore is the selection of the right men for the teaching profession.” It is equally true that the right training is to be imparted to the teacher students by right means to get the expected results. Our endeavour is to establish an institution of excellence to take up this responsibility, though on a limited scale, of moulding the best teachers for educating our future generation.
The new institution will be able to guide the educational institutions of the Bhavan worldwide and upgrade and update the teaching staff of the Bhavan as per requirement apart from conducting the regular courses. It will be a center for academic leadership of the Bhavan’s educational institutions especially schools. It will become a center for refreshment courses for the teachers in Bhavan’s schools. Regular upgradation and guidance for the teaching staff will further enhance the standards of performance of the Bhavan’s schools. This Institute can take up the responsibility of introducing modern methods of education in Bhavan’s schools. Hence the setting up of the Institute will become a strong support to the entire educational activities of the Bhavan.
The Institute was formally inaugurated on 29-10-2005 by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Sri. Oommen Chandy
